Join the Chorus

If you are a high school student in Jerusalem who likes to sing and wants to make a difference, join the Jerusalem Youth Chorus!

The mission of the Jerusalem Youth Chorus is to provide a space for young people from East and West Jerusalem to grow together in song and dialogue. Through the co-creation of music and the sharing of stories, we seek to empower our singers to become leaders in their communities. In the process, we will give concerts, make music videos, and hopefully even travel abroad! We hope to create an experience for our singers that is both life-changing and a lot of fun.

Imagine: Hearing yourself on the radio! Touring the world! Speaking English! Meeting new people! Having fun! Sharing stories! Making music videos! You can do all this and more with the Jerusalem Youth Chorus!

There are auditions—do I have to be a trained singer in order to join?

No! The auditions are just meant as an opportunity for us to hear your voice and get to know you better as a singer and as a person. We are looking for positive energy and potential just as much as experience. Even if you've never sung in a choir before, the Jerusalem Youth Chorus could be just right for you!

What will auditions be like? What do I have to prepare?

Auditions will be really low-key and as stressless as possible. We only ask you to prepare a song that you love to sing, in any language and any style. We will also do some easy vocal exercises and have a brief conversation to get to know you better as a person. That's all!

Tell me about rehearsals!

The chorus will meet weekly in a location that is easy to get to from wherever you come from in the city. We meet on Mondays afterschool from 4:30-8:30. Our Monday meetings consist of both singing and dialogue between the members of the chorus. The singing portion is led by the amazing conductor Hani Kreitem, and the dialogue is led in Arabic and Hebrew by professional facilitators, one Arab and one Jewish. The Jerusalem Youth Chorus performs at a high level for audiences both in Jerusalem and abroad! Professional performances require substantial practice and commitment, but they are definitely worth it.

What kind of music will we sing?

We sing music from all over the world! Some in Arabic, some in Hebrew, some in English, and some in other languages too! We sing songs that are beautiful, fun, and also have an important message. We might even write some of our own music to sing!

What kind of student are you looking for?

We seek Arab and Jewish students who are passionate about music and about making a difference in their communities. We expect commitment and a great energy. As mentioned above, we prioritize musical potential above experience, so don't feel shy about signing up for an audition!
