Olam Chesed Project
In these days of devastation, what would it take to begin to build a world from love instead of hate? As we approach one full year since October 7th and the war that has raged ever since, the Jerusalem Youth Chorus invites you and your community to imagine and experience the glimmer of hope that we all need—that a different future is still possible.
The Jerusalem Youth Chorus is an Israeli-Palestinian music and dialogue project bringing youth together in the heart of the conflict to sing out for peace, justice, inclusion, and equality. We don’t all share the same opinions—but we have continued to meet every week of this war because we know that we share the same future, no matter what our leaders tell us.
This is the world envisioned in the chant, Olam Chesed Yibaneh. We were inspired to take the song a step further, weaving together Hebrew, English, and Arabic as a way to create a foundation for building that shared future despite our differences—a world where all are welcome and have a space to be heard.
The High Holidays offer a call for reflection and reimagination. What do we want this next year, and beyond, to hold for all of us? In this spirit, we hope to empower you and your congregation to join us in song—expanding hearts and elevating spirits by teaching our version of the powerful chant Olam Chesed Yibaneh in three languages.
We know that it might take bravery—on many levels—but as Rabbi Menachem Creditor, composer of this powerful chant, wrote of our effort, “May we be open and wise enough to let this in.” Below, you can find resources (including lyric sheets, pronunciation guides, etc.) that we have prepared to equip you and your community to take this concrete step towards building a world from love. We hope you will join us.
We are offering these resources free of charge to all who wish to use them because we believe in the power of music to open hearts. If your community is moved to participate, we request that you acknowledge the Jerusalem Youth Chorus verbally and by including this paragraph in relevant online or printed materials. If your community has the means, we would humbly request an honorarium (suggested at $500) to support our ongoing work in Jerusalem to build this reality on the ground. Finally, we invite all participants to learn more about and support JYC and proudly wear the message of this song as we move into the new year.
